Lake County Health Department Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
Responsibilities:
- Counseled pregnant women, postpartum mothers, breastfeeding mothers, and children up to five years of age on healthy eating habits as well as getting adequate calcium, iron, and folate during pregnancy
- Developed a lesson plan for the weekly group nutrition education sessions focused on meal planning and taught one of these classes
- Assessed client flow time through the clinic by conducting surveys, gathering clinic statistics, and analyzing the data
- Provided an in-service presentation to the WIC employees, including public health assistants, certified health professionals, dietitians, and breastfeeding counselors regarding results from my undergraduate research
- Conducted case studies on 3 WIC clients defined as high-risk pregnancies related to healthcare and nutrition
- Revised a current policy regarding the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor role to match the state's policy
- Attended multiple Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) trainings and participated in group activities related to incorporation of this structure at Lake County Health Department
- Drove to Springfield, Illinois with a WIC Registered Dietitian to take part in the Breastfeeding Leadership Summit in order to expand my knowledge on the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative

Lake County Health Department Medical Nutrition Services (MNS)
Responsibilities:
- Counseled patients between the ages of 5 and 65 in the outpatient setting on diet-related conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, eating disorders, and obesity
- Provided 1-on-1 diabetes education regarding blood glucose testing and carbohydrate counting
- Assisted in weekly Diabetes Self-Management Education (DMSE) sessions
- Developed and lead a discussion related to "red flags" to a fad diet to patients at the Lake County Addictions Treatment Program
- Conducted nutrition assessments for patients in the HIV/ AIDS clinic and provided supplements and education based on patient needs
- Presented to "THE Group", a group for HIV patients, regarding the importance of food safety in immune-compromised individuals
- Worked with other health professionals in multidisciplinary team meetings to improve motivational interviewing techniques as required by the PCMH structure
